Killing time on Christmas Eve

The evening of Christmas Eve is the best hours of the year! But Christmas Eve DAY can be something of a problem. It seems as if it should be special.....but it often is busy and boring and not much else.

Today between preparing food, folding laundry, cleaning bedrooms, wrapping gifts, (and blogging), we slipped out for a visit to Olbrich Botanical Gardens. They had a wonderful holiday display of model trains, poinsettias, birdhouses, and origami birds.

While we were there, we visited the Bolz Conservatory, our very own Wisconsin rain forest. It was warm and lush and smelled richly alive.

I love the contrast of tropical plants and snow boots...

David was amazed by how much information could be gained from reading the signs. Here he is learning how to tell the difference between a goldfish and a koi.

Somewhere in the rain forest was hidden a (stuffed) sloth. As David said, it was like a real live I Spy book. We found it! Can you? (Click on the picture.)

Our visit concluded with a close inspection of some venus fly traps.

Because nothing says Christmas like carnivorous plants.
