Cookies and lights

What do we do to celebrate Christmas?

Decorating sugar cookies with friends is a must. I think it's a fun way to fill up the time on Christmas Eve morning. But this year we did it on Christmas Eve Eve after the school's early release.

This is David and his BFF.

Mary and her daddy got in on the action too. (Greg loves to decorate sugar cookies!)

So these cookies were decorated with butter cream frosting (my mom's recipe--yum!), sprinkles, M&Ms, and Skittles. Have you ever bitten into a sugar cookie and gotten a mouthful of M&Ms and Skittles?? Bleck! But it's super delish...if you're 5.

After cookie decorating, David and his BFF headed outside. (Play dates in Wisconsin require snow pants and snow boots.)

Look how cute they are! They happen to have matching coats (but different colors) and matching Jedi Master hats.

With a tummy full of frosting and Skittles, they were all ready to work hard on the snow fort.

Then last night, we drove here:

I love to drive around at Christmastime to see Christmas lights.

Here is the state capitol in lights.

And if you look very carefully, all the way across the frozen lake, you can see the real state capitol.

Enjoying Christmas lights--be it in the neighborhood or at special community displays--is a part of every holiday season in our family. (I think it would be hard to spend Christmas in the Southern Hemisphere. Alisa made me realize I should be thankful that it's dark at 4:30 here!)

Happy Christmas Eve!

Our celebration continues...
