Rose Bowl recap

For the first (and perhaps ONLY) time in our family's history, we all watched an entire football game (more or less): The Rose Bowl.

There were some good things and bad things about the Rose Bowl.

Good: Wisconsin played in the Rose Bowl.

Bad: Wisconsin lost the Rose Bowl.

Good: Wisconsin didn't choke.

Bad: TCU was just a (little) better football team.

Good: We ate popcorn for dinner.

Bad: We ate popcorn for dinner.

Good: A friend of mine happens to be Bret Bielema's housekeeper. (Bret Bielema is Wisconsin's coach.) She said that he has a very large, very organized closet of fashionable clothes. I found this to be helpful knowledge as it gave me something to think about during the game. Let's be honest--I would much rather imagine a very large, very organized closet of fashionable clothes than think about onside kicks or yards rushed. (For what it's worth, according to this friend, whose husband works with the football team, Bret Bielema is a really nice guy and super supportive of the families around him, just like it says here.)

Bad: Imagining a very large, very organized closet of fashionable clothes did nothing to help me follow the game. (Football is clearly a new endeavor for me.) I think I had asked Greg what was going on a million times by the end of the first quarter, which was supplemented by twice that many inquiries from David, who really just wanted to know why Bucky Badger himself wasn't playing. (I'm pretty sure soon thereafter Greg silently decided that football should not be a family activity.)

Good: The Rose Bowl is in Pasadena. I know quite a few people who went, and they all had a wonderful time (except for the loss, of course) and came back with big smiles. It is good to give Wisconsinites a reason to go to Pasadena in the middle of winter.

Bad: Folks who missed out on the California sun this year might not have a chance next year.

Good (Best): The football game inspired David to draw this picture for his teacher, Mrs. Q.

It's Bucky Badger playing football, complete with helmet, claws, and teammate. And clouds, moon, and sun.

But the very best part is the cloud feature. You can open this little door to see what's inside the cloud (rain).

So cute!

Bad (Worst): David cried at the end of the football game. Bawled. It was a flood of tears and shudders. Broke my heart.

So maybe we won't be watching football games together as a family.

Did you hear that?

It was Greg, breathing a sigh of relief.
