Another reason to love Madison

This thing is fabulous! And just as a farmers' market should be--local products only, everything produced by the vendors themselves, variety galore, great prices, heavenly smells, earthy smells, rainbows of fresh produce, friendly vendors, lovely location. Did I say this thing is fabulous?

The moment we arrived (actually before we even arrived), kids instantly wanted a snack. Somehow I doubted a basket of heirloom tomatoes or a giant mushroom would meet their expectations. Fortunately for them, this farmers' market could just as easily be named the Dane County Bakers' Market.

Mary chose this "muffin," of which she was very proud.

Anyone want a closer look at that "muffin"?

David chose a giant snickerdoodle. In this picture it looks like the Giant Snickerdoodle is going to eat David.

But I promise it was the other way around.

Eating a Giant Snickerdoodle is serious business.

Greg holding our whoopie pies. GIANT whoopie pies.

As you can surmise from the above picture, Greg blended in well to his surroundings.

Anytime you want, you can step out of the market crowds and into the lovely grounds of the Capitol.

Eating a Giant Snickerdoodle is a lot of work. You might need to crash on the grass afterwards.

My boys!

Mary wasn't interested in giving me a smile for the camera.

David took this picture of the Capitol. (Upon reflecting how each state has a capital and a capitol, David told us that states are like peanut butter: "They're all spread out.")

The market can get a little crowded, especially on these perfect autumn Saturdays we've been having. Can you spot Greg in this picture?

On the way back to the car, David and Mary found an interesting water feature.

We bought a couple more pumpkins. (I can't get enough this year!) I vetoed my plan to make one more loop to buy veggies--the kids were finished with the morning. But of course we couldn't leave without buying fresh cheese curds. As in made-that-very-morning cheese curds. Now that's fresh! And makes for some serious SQUEAK. Fresh squeaky cheese curds. One more reason to love Wisconsin.
