We did two sessions of swim lessons this summer at the Middleton pool, which we love. They have a great program there. Every morning for four weeks, the kids swam (while I sat very still in the shade of tree). The kids did great.
Mary, who before lessons began had informed me she was never going to put her face in the water, couldn't resist being obedient to her teacher. And she was putting her face in from day one. So she made great strides! She is a swimmer now. Bonus: Mary overcame her fear of the water slide!
David is working on stroke development and endurance. He worked really hard! It won't be long until he's ready for a swim team. (If you want your kid to be a lifelong strong swimmer, I'm of the opinion that nothing beats a few seasons on a swim team.) Bonus: David overcame his fear of the diving board!
As a fundraiser, the lifeguards take pictures of the kids underwater. Here are this year's pictures of David and Mary. (I don't know why they took so many pictures of Mary--it's supposed to be one per session.)
